What is the best Shallow Water Anchor?

In this article we will be going in depth on the Max-Gain Systems DIY shallow water anchoring kits. Not only is it the most cost effective way to anchor your boat in shallow water, but you can add capability whenever you want! Just add an extension to make it longer, add a mount for additional mounting options while boating, add a paddle to cover the boating requirement and not take up much room, add a push pole foot to be able to “pole” you and your boat around, and add a gaff to retrieve your catch while fishing. So much capability in one system, what else could you ask for?

Max-Gain Shallow Water Anchor Kits

If you are looking for a shallow water anchor, if you care about money, and if you care about space in your boat, this anchor system is for you. For all of the parts needed to make a shallow water anchor you can see the original shallow water anchor kits OR the rod box shallow water anchor kits. These kits come with all the parts needed to make a shallow water without needing to cut. These anchors are parts kits for a couple of reasons. Reason one, people want to expand the system in their own way to tailor the system to their needs. Reason two, is due to shipping constraints. At the length we can ship the rods, if were were to add the parts on the ends of the rods the shipping would double in most all cases. This way we can ship the longest shallow water anchor to you and stay under the next size up “over dimension” charge. Why spend double the money on shipping for 1 additional inch of anchor?

Shallow Water Anchor Kits

The Anchor kits come in two types of kits. Original, that includes a 93 inch long piece of the rod, and Rod Box, every piece of rod is no longer than 46.5 inches long. The Original DIY Shallow Water Anchor Kits use less parts and use a longer section of the rod. This allows for more “bend” that the rod is capable of and is less expensive per anchor. The “Rod Box” Shallow Water Anchors use additional couplings and have more joints throughout the length of the anchor system, which is still VERY strong and NOT a weak point at all, making it short enough to be stowed away in smaller locations on the boat and half the shipping cost of longer one piece anchors.

Paddle System

We offer a paddle that can be used with the same coupling system as our shallow water anchors or be used to make your own ore using a T-grip. The modular paddle kits come with a coupling, rod section, and paddle to be assembled. Once assembled you will gain the ability to add an emergency paddle onto your shallow water system and the added capability of being able to use extension pieces. This paddle is not just a paddle either. It has a few extra features that add to the capability of the system. It has two integrated lure retrievers on either side in order to unhook stuck line and fishing lures. It also has ribs for increased strength and slots on the end of the paddle that can be used to push debris or any other items away from your boat.

Push Pole Foot

We were asked for years for a push pole foot that can be used with the shallow water anchor system. We are happy to announce the introduction of the Modular Push Pole Kits. Push Poles typically are 1.5 inches in outer diameter. This is because that diameter fits hands the best on average and remains fairly straight and rigid at longer lengths like 16, 20, and 22 feet which most push pole tend to be. Many push poles out there can be over $1,200! Our eyes got really wide when I saw that. If you are wanting a push pole that is all one piece and weight is the biggest consideration then that super expensive push pole might be the right choice. If you are looking for a 1.5 inch push pole that you can DIY, we have you covered. See our DIY Push Poles. If you want to add even more capability to your shallow water anchor system check out the Modular DIY Push Pole Kits.

This works on either 3/4 inch or 1 inch shallow water anchor systems. Most push poles come with the foot on one end and spike on the other. This way, when “poling” your boat around the flats you can flip it over and still anchor your boat temporarily before unanchoring, flipping it back over and continue poling. For this reason the push pole kits come with a male coupling. This way you can use the longer portion of the DIY shallow water anchors with your push pole kit for a longer push pole to make poling easier.

Gaff

We were asked for a gaff to go with the shallow water anchor system in order to add more capability. We came out with a gaff that is able to be used with the popular 3/4 inch systems AND the larger 1 inch systems. We developed a thread size increaser that allows it to be used with the larger thread for the 1 inch rod systems. The Gaff kits come with an extra rod piece and a grip in order to add even more capability to the system.

Mounting Options

We came up with many mounting options which allows for a wide variety of mounting locations for your boat. Over the rail arched options, transom mounts, motor mounts, and even through the floor mounts for the popular pontoon boat. We developed these mounts with many considerations. One was the finish. They needed to look good. Expertly welded and even powder coated options make for a perfect finish. Two was to not damage the shallow water anchor. We developed polymer bushings that we installed inside the aluminum tubing in order to allow for a smooth surface for the fiberglass rods to slide against and to not scratch the rods like a bar metal tube would. Three was that it had to accept the stainless steel couplings through and not bind. The diameter of the aluminum tubing had to be increased in order to have enough space to insert the bushing and still have room for the coupling to slide through. All of these considerations went into the construction of the our different mounts.

Conclusion

The Max-Gain Systems shallow water anchor system is THE MOST capable system out there. Not only can you anchor your boat, but you can use the same rods that you would already have to accomplish just about every other task you might run into while boating. Be it emergency uses, anchoring, or just poling around, this system is the most bang for your bang for almost any boat out there.
